About Male Fertility/Infertility

It is not unusual for the cause of infertility in couples to be a male problem. Sperm abnormalities maybe either a factor or the factor, for infertility.

According to the World Health Organization the definition of a normal sperm count is as follows, anything outside of this factors is considered abnormal.

  1. Concentration of spermatozoa should be at least 20 million per ml.
  2. Total volume of semen should be at least 2 ml
  3. Total number of spermatozoa in the ejaculate should be at least 40 million
  4. At least 75% of the spermatozoa should be alive. It is normal for up to 25% to be dead.
  5. At least 30% of the spermatozoa should be of normal shape and form.
  6. At least 25% of the spermatozoa should be swimming with rapid forward movement.
  7. At least 50% of the spermatozoa should be swimming forward, even if only sluggishly.

Although many sperm abnormalities and fertility/ infertility problems can be effectively treated with diet and lifestyle changes. It is important to know some of the causes that do contribute to low or poor quality sperm out put.
